We were quoted $500 a month for a decent feed

That is where this started. We wanted Solana shreds for our own work, we asked around, and the answers came back between $400 and $1,500 a month depending on who was asking and how many regions they wanted. Nobody could explain what the money was for.

So we went and priced the whole market properly, vendor by vendor, reading published pages rather than asking sales. Then we worked out what it actually costs to serve one subscriber, which turns out to be a question with a fairly boring answer: ingest is paid for once, and every additional customer is a copy of packets you already bought. The marginal cost is bandwidth.

At the rate we measured, that is somewhere between $12 and $17 a month. The category charges up to a hundred times that. Not because the work is hard, but because the price has never been challenged by anyone willing to publish their own numbers.

So we set ours at $100 and published the arithmetic.

This is a good business at $100, and we are happy to say so. The margin is real, we publish it, and it is what pays for running the ingest properly rather than cheaply. That is the part that is actually hard, and it is the part you are buying.

What we will keep doing: publish what things cost, publish what everyone else charges with the date we read it, and publish corrections when we are wrong. If you run a competing service and our figures misrepresent you, send us yours and they go on the page with your name on them.

What we will not do is inflate a claim to win a sale. We run one region, we say which, and we publish how to measure us against anyone else. If a number on this site is ever wrong, tell us and watch it change.
